Christmas Stamps and Candles

Eräänä sunnuntai-iltana palkitsin itseni viikonlopun opiskelusta tekemällä uuden postimerkkitilauksen. Edellisistä tilauksista on vielä merkkejä jäljellä, mutta tarvitsin joka tapauksessa lisää jouluaiheisia merkkejä. Tämän vuoden joulu-uutuudet ovat joulukuusi ja tallilyhty. Tallilyhtymerkkien mukana tulleet jouluiset Priority-tarrat olivat kiva yllätys.

As a prize for a weekend spent studying, I gave myself a permission to make another stamp order (I still have a lot of stamps left from the two previous orders I made this year). Well, I only had a few Christmas stamps anyway so I think it was necessary to get more of them. The Christmas tree and lantern stamps were released this year, the others are from previous years.

Testasin jokin aika sitten yhtä kierrätyskynttilöistäni. Huomasin pari korjausta kaipaavaa asiaa.
  1. Sydänlankaa ei kannata jättää liian pitkäksi tai kynttilä savuttaa.
  2. Kynttilää valaessa pitää kiinnittää huomiota siihen että sydänlanka on suora ja keskellä koko kynttilän matkalta. Kun tämä kynttilä paloi sellaiseen kohtaan asti, jossa sydänlanka oli vinossa, liekki ensin pieneni ja sitten sammui, vaikka palamatonta kynttilävahaa oli vielä paljon jäljellä.

I tested one of the recycled candles a while ago. I noticed two things.
  1. The wick was too long (it caused some smoke at first) so I guess I need to cut the wicks of the other candles.
  2. It's important to make sure the wick is straight when you make the candle (anchor it to the bottom with a weight, a small coin, for example). When the candle burnt to a point where the wick wasn't centered, it didn't burn well anymore.

How to Transfer Sketch onto Painting Surface

As I've mentioned before, I don't usually draw my sketches for paintings straight onto watercolor paper or canvas. I draw the sketch on a separate paper, where it's easier to erase and clean up the outlines and then transfer the finished sketch onto my painting surface. How to Save Leftover Acrylic Paint for Later

A quick tip on how to save acrylic paint for later! If you mix too much acrylic paint or pour too much paint out of the tube, do you know what to do with the leftover paint? If you're planning to continue painting the next day, you can't just leave it, cause acrylic paint will dry by then.
