First letter of 2016 on sunset colored sailboat stationery. I wrote the New Year wishes with a similar color theme.  Vuoden 2016 ensimmäinen kirje auringonlaskun värisellä purjevenekirjepaperilla. Kirjoitin myös uudenvuoden toivotuksen samoilla väreillä. 

I got mail! It's been a long time since I last got any mail and suddenly I got some from two penpals just a couple of days apart. My penpal from Hong Kong sent a card from her graduation trip in Macau, China. And my Singaporean penpal sent a letter and a card and these cute heart origami "love letters". They're "letters containing words of encouragement and positive advice addressed to strangers and then left randomly placed in any public places". One of the letters is for me and the other two for me to leave in random places. I've seen these heart shapes used as bookmarks in a craft magazine so I'm thinking to leave them between library books, perhaps. By the way, I just opened mine and I can't fold it back... These are letters and cards I've sent a long time ago (2012-2013) that never made it to the blog for one reason or another. But I found the photos and wanted to share them with you. The first summery letter on penguin paper and a moomin card in a transparent envelope was sent to Norway. I made the transparent envelope by cutting a suitable piece of a plastic pocket and sewing it shut and covering the stitches with tape.  Tässä on kauan sitten (2012-2013) lähettämiäni kirjeitä ja kortteja, jotka eivät koskaan päässet blogiin asti jostain syystä. Halusin kuitenkin jakaa kuvat vielä täällä. Ensimmäinen kesäinen kirje pingviinikirjepaperilla ja muumikortti menivät Norjaan läpinäkyvässä kuoressa. Leikkasin kirjekuoren muovitaskusta, ompelin sen kiinni ja peitin ompeleet vielä paperiteipillä. Oli kuulemma vaikea avata...

Easter letter to Singapore / Pääsiäiskirje Singaporeen Is it still Easter mail even if I sent it too late to arrive for Easter? Anyway, I sent these letters at around Easter time and made the envelopes look Eastery. The animal stationery in the first letters is one sided so I'm showing the backside only. I sent a sugar painting with the letter to Singapore and a watercolor card with the letter to Hong Kong. The painting on the card is again inspired by Mauri Kunnas' children's book illustrations. For the letter to Norway, I used scented Diddlina stationery. Voiko pääsiäispostia lähettää vielä pääsiäisenä? Lähetin nämä kirjeet pääsiäisen aikoihin ja koristelin kirjekuoret sen mukaisesti pääsiäismunilla. Eläinpaperit kahdessa ensimmäisessä kirjeessä ovat yksipuolisia, joten näytän niistä vain kuvalliset puolet. Lähetin Singaporeen myös sokerimaalauksen ja Hongkongiin vesivärikortin. Norjan kirjeeseen käytin hajustettua Diddlina-kirjepaperia.

Incoming mail. It's been a while since the last time. But I got this lovely package today! Jemina held a blog lottery in November and the prizes were packages of mail art supplies. I didn't win the lottery, but Jemina decided to send something to everyone who entered after all. :) So here's what I got: a lot of cute nature themed stationery and envelopes, and  stickers and priority tags. Check out Jemina's blog here .  Saapunutta postia pitkästä aikaa. Matka maailmankaikkeuteen -blogin Jemina piti marraskuussa blogiarvonnan, jonka palkintoina oli postitarvikepaketteja. En voittanut arvonnassa, mutta lopuksi Jemina päätti lähettää kaikille osallistuneille jotain. :) Tässä siis saamani paketin sisältö: paljon söpöjä luontoaiheisia kirjepapereita ja -kuoria sekä tarroja ja priority-merkkejä.

One of the search terms people come to my blog through google is "Interpals experiences". So I thought I'd actually I write about that. I have mentioned before that I had a couple of card swaps through Interpals. One went very nicely and the other one not so much . However, what I was mainly using Interpals for, was finding letter penpals. (And the past tense here means that it's been a very long time since I was last active on Interpals.) So, Interpals is a place where you can find snail mail penpals, email penpals, language exchange pals, friends or even love online. You set up your profile, where you can write about yourself, your interests, what you're looking for on Interpals and add photos. You can tick boxes of what you're looking for so that when other people search for that particular thing (for example, language exchange in Spanish), your profile will come up in the search and they might send you a message. Lähetin pari viikkoa sitten tämän värikkään kirjeen Singaporeen. Suljin kuoreen vielä yhden viime keväänä maalaamistani vesiväripostikorteista. No, oikeasti maalasin niistä silloin vain kaksi valmiiksi ja loput ovat vielä keskeneräisiä. Mallina oli Mauri Kunnaksen Yökirjan kuvitukset. Yleensä olen suunnitellut kirjeiden sisältöä etukäteen ranskalaisin viivoin vihkoon, johon kirjaan myös mitä kirjepapereita/kuoria/postimerkkejä olen jo lähettänyt millekin kirjekaverille. Tällä kertaa menin kuitenkin kirjeen suunnittelussa pidemmälle ja kirjoitin koko kirjeen ensin koneella ja vasta sitten käsin. Toisaalta se tuntuu vähän huijaukselta, mutta toisaalta kirjoitettavaa oli paljon ja näin sain kaiken jäsenneltyä järkevästi. I sent this colorful letter to Singapore a couple of weeks ago. I got this pretty letter from Hong Kong yesterday. One of the decorations on the letter is a quote from Audrey Hepburn:  "To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow" The weather's been so hot lately, about +30 degrees Celsius and no wind. All the walks with the dog have to be short and lead to the river so he can cool off.  Kukikas kirje Hongkongista ja lenkki joen rannalle koiran kanssa.   

I got this cute letter from my Singaporean penpal last week. Enclosed was also a holiday card from her trip to Nepal.   Sain kirjeen Singaporesta reilu viikko sitten. Mukana oli myös kortti Nepalin matkalta.

Singaporeen maaliskuussa lähetetty kirje. Mukana on neljän palan palapeli, joka on huomattavasti vaikeampi kuin luulisi... A letter sent to Singapore in March. I included a little brain training puzzle in the envelope. The goal is to make the letter T using the four puzzle pieces given. It's much harder than it sounds... And the envelope is made of an old Marimekko ad. 

Sain Singaporesta todella nopean vastauksen kirjeeseeni . Tämä saapui vain noin kaksi viikkoa sen jälkeen, kun olin lähettänyt oman kirjeeni. Varsinaisen kirjeen lisäksi kuoresta löytyi piirros ja diagrammi, jonka elämänohje olisi varmaan joskus hyvä muistaa. Ja Singaporessa on muuten todella upeita postimerkkejä.  My Singaporean penpal answered really fast and I got this reply letter already at the end of January, only about two weeks after sending her a letter . She also included a cute drawing - a cat version of Lord of the Rings - and a diagram telling us why we shouldn't worry. They have such beautiful stamps in Singapore, by the way. 

Vuoden ensimmäinen kirje lähti Singaporeen muutama viikko sitten, vastauksena yllä olevan kuvan kirjeeseen. Laitoin mukaan Lapista kesällä ostetun revontulikortin. I'm slowly continuing to catch up on my letter writing. I sent a letter and a postcard of Northern Lights to Singapore earlier this month. The purple washi tape used on the envelope has become my favorite. 

Pitkän tauon jälkeen kirjoitin ja lähetin marraskuussa kaksi kirjettä. Ensimmäisen Hongkongiin nuorimmalle kirjekaverilleni ja toisen Norjaan, yhdelle ensimmäisistä kirjekavereistani. Hongkongiin meni myös kuva Eero Järnefeltin maalauksesta, koska kirjoitin kirjeessä esimerkiksi Ateneumin Järven lumo -näyttelystä. En löytänyt kokoelmistani syksyistä kirjepaperia, mutta käytin kuitenkin syksyisiä kirjekuoria ja postimerkkejä.  Letters I sent in November. It's not like I actually needed more stamps (except for Christmas stamps, I was nearly out of those) but there were some cute ones I wanted so it was better to get them befor...

Vuoden alussa lähetetyt kirjeet. Tai näistä ensimmäinen lähti oikeastaan jo viime vuoden puolella. Talvista kirjepaperia (ja kaktustarroja) on tullut vähän ylikäytettyä ja se on melkein lopussa. Barcelonaan lähti kirjeen mukana maatuskamagneetti, ja kirjekuori on tehty Marimekon mainoksesta. Norjan ja Madridin kirjeisiin riitti vielä Lentoposti -merkit Priority-tarrojen sijaan.  Letters that I sent at the beginning of the year. Well, technically the first one was the last letter I sent in 2012. I've been using the winter stationery a lot lately (as well as those cactus flower stickers) and it's almost used up now. Kuvissa on t ammikuussa ja helmikuun alussa saapuneita kirjeitä sekä yksi paketti. En ollut kuullut näistä kirjekavereista kuukausiin ja vuoden alussa tulikin sitten useampi kirje. Syksy oli selvästi monelle kiireistä aikaa. Itselläni on ollut myös hektinen vuoden alku, mutta toivottavasti ehdin pian vastailemaan loppuihin näistä kirjeistä.
