 Old Maple Tree. Charcoal sketch on litoposter. Size ~ 70 x 50 cm. Time ~ 2.5 h. August 2010. I'm self taught in art but after art classes at school, I have taken one 5-day art course . I took the course in 2010. It was about drawing and painting plants and it was set in Suomenlinna in the summer. You could use the tools of your choice, and I chose charcoal and watercolor. The drawings in this post are the only charcoal works I made, most of my works were watercolor paintings .  The assignment of the maple tree drawing above, was to make a drawing of a tree or a part of a tree paying attention to light and shadow, using only black (or one color for light and another one for shadow). I picked this old, beautiful tree as my subject but the place I chose wasn't the best. Singaporeen maaliskuussa lähetetty kirje. Mukana on neljän palan palapeli, joka on huomattavasti vaikeampi kuin luulisi... A letter sent to Singapore in March. I included a little brain training puzzle in the envelope. The goal is to make the letter T using the four puzzle pieces given. It's much harder than it sounds... And the envelope is made of an old Marimekko ad.

Koristelin eilen kummitytön kanssa pajunoksia keittiöön. Virpomaan ei tänään menty, mutta kuitenkin sateeseen kävelylle bongailemaan noitia. Olihan siellä niitä muutama säätä uhmaamassa.  Sain syntymäpäivälahjaksi Taika -lehden tilauksen muutamaksi kuukaudeksi. Maaliskuussa tuli tämä pääsiäis- ja muita kevätaskarteluja käsittelevä numero. En ole ehtinyt vielä toteuttaa ideoista mitään, mutta söpöt pääsiäispuput pahvista ja silkkipaperista sekä kangaskukilla koristellut äitienpäiväkortit ja pikku lahjat olisivat kivoja projekteja. When I was studying Arabic, I had the idea of someday painting Arabic calligraphy on my wall. Well, I haven't gotten there yet but I thought a postcard-sized calligraphy of a Russian proverb would be a start. So I wrote this in Russian cursive writing. A bit practice on joining Cyrillic cursive letters together (I don't know if I've done it well or not). I got the proverb from here . Loose translation: "You have to learn to walk before you can run." Literal translation: "Alphabet is the step to wisdom." And the reason for the extra piece of paper for the last word is that I first wrote студенька instead of ступенька.

Kokeilin polymeerimassaa ensimmäistä kertaa viime joululomalla ja päätin muotoilla massasta riipuksia: kaksi pöllöä, yhden höyhenen (tai lehden) ja yhdet kasvot. Käyttämäni Premo-polymeerimassan väri on kupari. Massaa pitää ensin pehmittää käsin, jotta siihen ei jäisi ilmataskuja. Sitten massa muotoillaan lasin, metallin, folion tai vahapaperin päällä. Massa paistetaan uunissa 130 °C 30 min (enintään 6 mm paksuinen riipus). Jäähtymisen jälkeen massa puhdistetaan ja kuivataan ennen maalaamista akryyliväreillä.  I tried polymer clay for the first time during my last Christmas vacation. I made 4 pendants: two owls, a feather (or a leaf) and a face.
