The spruce wreath I made at the end of May had lost its color and shed a lot of its needles by July. I bought it extra time by fixing the position of the cones with iron wire and spray painting the whole wreath pink. I used the paint outside, but the smell was still horrible and long-lasting. Next time I may need to use a mask. I left the wreath dry out in the balcony over night before hanging it back on the door. The wreath is still left with a few bald spots I'll need to attend to.  Kuusikranssi , jonka tein toukokuun lopulla oli menettänyt värinsä ja varissut aika pahasti heinäkuuhun mennessä. Hankin kranssille lisäaikaa korjaamalla käpyjen asentoa rautalangalla ja maalaamalla koko krassin spray-maalillla pinkiksi. Käytin maalia ulkona, mutta haju oli silti aivan kamala ja pitkäkestoinen. Ensi kerralla pitää ehkä käyttää suusuojaa. Annoin kranssin kuivua ulkona parvekkeella yön yli ennen kuin ripustin sen takaisin oveen. Kranssiin jäi vielä joitakin aukkoja, jotka kaipa...

I made another twig heart for the summer cottage. I found the idea for this curly heart from a Finnish crafts magazine, but made a simpler, narrower version vs. the weaved heart they did. The wreath ended up on the front door at the summer cottage. I used birch twigs, iron wire, secateurs and cutters. Tein siitä kuitenkin yksinkertaisemman ja kapeamman version lehdessä esitetyn punotun sydämen sijaan. Sydänkranssi päätyi koristamaan mökin ulko-ovea. Kranssiin tarvitaan koivurisuja, rautalankaa, leikkurit ja oksasakset. Alla on video kranssin tekemisestä, jos haluat katsoa miten se syntyi.

I found instructions for a beautiful spruce shaped wreath from a Finnish craft book. I made the wreath at the summer cottage, but brought it home to replace the Easter wreath finally. The basis of the wreath is made of willow branches and the "branches" are made of pine, spruce, juniper, calluna, blueberry, lingonberry and birch twigs. Finally I added a few cones. I used cutters, iron wire and secateurs to put the wreath together. The blueberry leaves dried up in a couple of days so it's best not to use them. And the needles started falling off in less than a week so you shouldn't touch wreath much after it's finished.  Luonto Sisustaa -kirjasta (kirj. I saw the instructions of this twig heart in some magazine on the plane last spring. There are different types of twig hearts you could make, but I like this one with the curly tail.  Bongasin tämän risusydämen ohjeen jostain lehdestä lentokoneessa viime keväänä. Risusydämistä voi tietysti tehdä monennäköisiä, mutta pidän itse tästä kippurahäntäisestä mallista.

Willow branches, feathers, Easter eggs and ribbon... I made a simple willow wreath for Easter. For the basis of the wreath, I used willow branches (with catkins), iron wire, secateurs and cutters. First I made a circle of one branch and then tied more branches around it with wire. For additional decoration I painted a couple of styrofoam eggs and attached them and the yellow feathers with iron wire. Finally I made a hanging loop of iron wire and put a bow on top. Pajunoksia, höyheniä, pääsiäismunia ja nauhaa... Tein yksinkertaisen pajukranssin pääsiäiskoristeeksi. Kranssipohjaan käytin pajunoksia (joissa on pajunkissoja), rautalankaa, oksasaksia ja leikkureita. Taivutin ensin yhden pajunoksan ympyräksija kiersin lisää oksia sen ympärille sitoen niitä rautalangalla kiinni. Lisäkoristeiksi maalasin pari stryroksimunaa ja kiinnitin ne ja keltaiset höyhenet kranssiin rautalangalla. Tein rautalangasta vielä ripustuslenkin ja sidoin sen päälle koristenauhan. More ...

Löysin kesällä käpykranssi-idean Jenni Peltosen kirjasta Koristellaan koti talveen . Sain viimein toteutettua oman kranssini. I found the idea for a heart-shaped pine cone wreath from a crafts book last summer. I finally got around to making my own a few days ago.  Keräsin männynkäpyjä syksyllä mökiltä ja kuivatin ne lämpimässä paikassa, jotta ne aukeaisivat. Jatkoin pari päivää sitten värjäämällä kävyt kultaisella spray-maalilla.  I picked the cones in the fall and then let them dry in a warm place so that they'd open up. A few days ago I spray painted the cones with golden paint. Väänsin sydämenmuotoisen kehikon rautalangasta ja liimasin kävyt siihen kuumaliimalla. I bent the frame of wire and glued the cones on it with a hot glue gun. Kultainen kranssi sopii joulukoristeeksi, mutta se voi olla esillä muulloinkin.
