Blogging Goals for 2016

Yearly recap 2015 and 3 blogging goals for 2016.

 I kept my one blogging goal for 2015 quite well: 1-2 blog posts per week (on average). I slipped only on a couple of fall months. And I published the highest amount of blog posts per year in the history of this blog (still not a huge amount though). I also started a Youtube channel for art and DIY videos and opened an Etsy shop for selling printable coloring book pages for adults. 

 For next year, I don't have any any quantity goal, but a few others:


1. Longer, more informative posts


I'd rather make more of the lengthier and more informative tutorial type posts and in turn publish less posts in total.

 Examples: Finding Penpals on Interpals, Sugar Painting, Making a Coloring Book Pt. 1 & Pt. 2

2. Limited topics


I want to keep more focused topics (art and crafts) for this blog and remove unrelated blog posts from my drafts. I already started this by starting a separate gardening blog in the fall.

3. Making an online course


After watching the Teachable Summit webinars (and a few others by Mariah Coz, Melyssa Griffin and Lead Pages), I'm interested in making an online course. But I'm still thinking about the topic. Something related to the DIY tutorials I post on this blog and on Youtube, but a wider entity.

How to Transfer Sketch onto Painting Surface

As I've mentioned before, I don't usually draw my sketches for paintings straight onto watercolor paper or canvas. I draw the sketch on a separate paper, where it's easier to erase and clean up the outlines and then transfer the finished sketch onto my painting surface. In this  blog post I'll list five different methods to transfer your drawing onto the painting surface. They're all either cheap or completely free. Some require a computer or other technology and some don't. So hopefully, if you're struggling with how to transfer your sketches, one of these methods (or a combination of some of them) will suite your budget and the supplies you already have available. How to Make Art/DIY YouTube Videos | Beginner's Guide + Free Checklist

A couple of months before my last birthday, I decided I wanted to start making speed painting videos for You T ube and asked for a tripod for my birthday. My first videos turned out to be travel diaries, because those were a lot easier to film. By now I've also made some DIY tutorial and speed art videos and I thought I'd share how I got started with those by using tools I already had or just cheap or free tools. Why should you start a You T ube channel though, if you already run a craft or art blog? For one thing, it can be a lot more informative to watch video of an art technique or a craft project than just reading and seeing a few work-in-progress photos. Do You Have to Prime Cardboard Before Painting?

Do you really need to prime cardboard with gesso before painting? I previously made a blog post about how I prepare cardboard for painting by priming it with gesso and why you might want to do that. This time I'm testing, if you really have to prime it by showing you a comparison of painting on primed and unprimed cardboard with acrylics. Let's see if the primed vs. unprimed cardboard painting results look different or not and whether I'll be contradicting what I wrote in that post.
