I guess I can't stick to just one thing by nature, so I want to try different art supplies, too. Even though materials such as charcoal and soft pastels haven't completely convinced me because of their messiness, I still love the color pay off and contrast they produce. As I've mentioned before, I don't usually draw my sketches for paintings straight onto watercolor paper or canvas. I draw the sketch on a separate paper, where it's easier to erase and clean up the outlines and then transfer the finished sketch onto my painting surface. In this  blog post I'll list five different methods to transfer your drawing onto the painting surface. They're all either cheap or completely free. Some require a computer or other technology and some don't. So hopefully, if you're struggling with how to transfer your sketches, one of these methods (or a combination of some of them) will suite your budget and the supplies you already have available. Varnish I updated my acrylic painting related art supplies last year. Apparently you should varnish your acrylic paintings to protect them. So a varnish was my first purchase. I wanted a matte varnish, but I could only find a gloss one so that's what I got. I varnished four of my acrylic canvas paintings with two coats 24 hours apart. It's been a long time since I last went to the nearest recycling center and I had forgotten the huge variety of what they sell. Anyway, here's what I got. I'm bad at cutting straight so I thought this paper cutter for 2 euros would be pretty handy (I tested it at the recycling center and it worked fine). I could use the old muffin molds (they were actually for free) for making candles . My mother got the wooden beads for the next key chain necklace I'll make for her (I give her one every Christmas). And I thought the little frames below would be nice for the summer cottage. Piirsin ensimmäisen pastellimuotokuvan noin pari vuotta sitten ja siitä lähtien mielessä on käynyt aina välillä pastellikynien hankkiminen. Pehmeillä pastelleilla kun ei kovin tarkkaa jälkeä saa aikaan. Nyt raaskin viimein hankkia pienen setin pastellikyniä Akateemisen kirjakaupan taideosastolta. Sieltä siksi, että voitin viime syksynä arvonnasta sinne lahjakortin, ja kortilla oli sopivasti vielä parikymppiä arvoa jäljellä. Ostin siis 12 pastellikynän setin, johon on kerätty nimenomaan muotokuviin sopivat värit. Derwentin nettisivuilta löytyy myös ohjeita pastellikynien (ja muiden piirustus-/maalausvälineiden) käyttöön, esimerkiksi juuri niiden eri ihonsävyjen aikaansaamiseen ja myös joitakin harjoitusprojekteja.   Ensimmäinen muotokuva pastellikynillä on jo valmistunut.
